Course Overview

It is the study of source, mode of absorption, distribution and metabolism of various inorganic
substances of minerals by plants for their growth, development, structure, physiology and reproduction.
Woodwards (1695) firstly observed that plants grow better in muddy water.
De saussure(1804) reported in his bookRschercheschimiques sur la vegetation that the
plantsobtain the mineral contents from the soil.
Liebig (1840) reported the essentiality of mineral nutrition & stated that productivity of soil depends
